Dr. Rosemary Laird is a proud product of 20 years of Catholic education!

Born to an Italian father and Irish mother, she is the 3rd of 5 siblings. They grew up in the suburbs of Chicago following her father’s positions in public education. Her mother is a RN (and now works with her daughter) Education and service as a way to live the faith was a priority for the family.

Dr. Laird earned a bachelors degree in Biology at Loyola University of Chicago. She then received her medical degree with honors from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. in 1991. Residency in internal medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals followed, where she earned the rank of Chief Resident. She next pursued specialized medical training in geriatrics via a fellowship at the University of Kansas, where she also earned a Masters in Health Services Administration.

After relocating to Florida in 2002, Dr. Laird became the founding Medical Director of Health First Aging Services and the Center for Family Caregivers in Melbourne, where her dedication to her community and patients earned her recognition as a Space Coast Humanitarian in 2011 followed by the American Geriatrics Society’s Clinician of the Year award in 2013 recognizing her work in the care of patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
She then brought her more than 20 years of experience to Central Florida when Florida Hospital (now AdventHealth) selected her to become Executive Medical Director of its senior health program in 2015.

A consummate advocate for elders as well as family caregivers, Dr. Laird is a co-author of the 2009 Best Consumer Health Book called Take Your Oxygen First: Protecting Your Health and Happiness While Caring for a Loved One with Memory Loss. For 10 years she and her husband, family physician Dr. Tim Laird, authored the weekly Florida Today column “Ask the Docs.”

The Lairds live in Melbourne, FL and have been Parishioners of Ascension Catholic Community since 2002. In 1997 they were inducted into the Knights of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. Dr. Laird is currently working with the diocese of Orlando on the development of housing for retired priests and religious. Married in 1994, they have four children now aged 23, 22, 20, and 16.
